Kickstart your career in Quantity Surveying with hands-on experience delivering essential water infrastructure projects.

Our Client has a requirement for a Quantity Surveyor, who will be required to work on a contract basis in Chatham, Kent.

Role Purpose:

This role is an excellent opportunity for a Junior Quantity Surveyor to develop their commercial skills within the water industry. You’ll support the wider project team in managing costs, valuations, and subcontract relationships across multiple live projects. Working under the guidance of senior commercial staff, you’ll gain exposure to cost control, forecasting, reporting, and contract management, helping to ensure projects are delivered efficiently, safely, and in line with client requirements.

Job Role Responsibilities:

  • Applications, valuations / cost value reconciliation.
  • Cost control and forecasting. Prepare and feed information for monthly reports: value, cost, profit/loss, cash flow.
  • Supply chain management.
  • Assisting with Risk and Value Management to optimise solution. Mentor and regularly review with the project team.
  • Contract Management – including all relevant contractual forms, methods of budgetary control and relevant software applications.
  • Prepare subcontract enquiries, negotiate and set up contracts.
  • Ensure all notifications/documents are kept up to date.
  • Ensure all safety risk situations are brought to the attention of site management.
  • Ongoing liaison with site team, subcontractor(s) and clients’ representative(s).
  • Provide contractual advice to the site team as and when required.

Experience / Skills / Knowledge / Qualifications:

  • Around 1 year post-graduation experience in a commercial, water or utilities environment.
  • HNC or Degree in Quantity Surveying, Commercial Management, or a related discipline.
  • Working towards RICS or ICES accreditation.
  • Understanding of cost reporting, valuations, and budgetary control.
  • Good working knowledge of Microsoft Office and experience with cost management or project reporting software.
  • Strong numerical, analytical, and communication skills.
  • A proactive approach with a willingness to learn and develop.
  • Previous experience within water, utilities, or infrastructure projects is advantageous.
